Green leaders in Montgomery County congregations, you’re invited to join our group: Montgomery County Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions (MCFACS)
Inspired in part by the work of the Fairfax County-based Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions, Walter Weiss of River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation has convened MCFACS to coordinate strong faith support and a moral voice for environmental policy in the Montgomery County Council.
Working together with us at Interfaith Power & Light, MCFACS will help connect Montgomery County congregations to opportunities to undertake climate education, greening, and state or national climate advocacy.
More About MCFACS
Mission
Montgomery County Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions (MCFACS) unites people of faith to help solve the climate emergency that is disrupting and threatening life on Earth.
Goals and Approach
MCFACS pursues four goals in its work:
1. A moral and urgent call to address climate change;
2. Plan and implement ethical- and spiritual-based climate policies and actions on a scale appropriate to the emergency from a nonpartisan perspective;
3. Embolden and build the capacity within congregations and denominations to do good works that protect our planet and its people; and
4. Encourage congregations and denominations to become champions of transformation to address climate change.
We work primarily on the local level—Montgomery County, the most populous jurisdiction in Maryland—and occasionally on state, national, and international levels, wherever we can have the greatest impact.
MCFACS represents a diverse community of faiths, whose voices are valuable in the conversation on climate change, and whose faith-based actions draw on a deep well of love for each other and the planet we share.
Who We Are
The MCFACS network is inclusive and open to all faith and spiritual groups, ethnicities, and nationalities. We currently have members from Buddhist, Catholic, Earth-based, Hindu, Humanist, Islamic, Jewish, Protestant, Sikh, Society of Friends, Unitarian Universalist, and other traditions. MCFACS also works in partnership with the Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions of Northern Virginia, Interfaith Power & Light (DC.MD.NoVA), Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake, and several secular organizations.
